Vincent's First Day of School!

I can't believe it!!! I am officially the mother of a kindergartner. Vincent's first day of school was Aug. 27th 2009, one week and a day after all the other grades in the school began. Vincent went in for his kindergarten testing on Aug. 19th and did a great job. Did any of us doubt that he would? They test the all the children to see where the are learning-wise, and place those who are behind in all day kindergarten and the one's who are where they should be, in the half day program. He is goes to school from 8:25 to 11:15.

This is his awesome new backpack he picked out by himself. That is... after I talked him out of the High School Musical backpack:)

I love it now that he is on a schedule because this puts me on a schedule. We wake up in the morning, get dressed, eat, then read scriptures and have family prayer, afterwhich Vinny goes to school and Josh goes to work. I love starting the day off right! If there is extra time then he reads until it is time to go.

What an exciting morning. We did all we had to do and then caught up with our neighbors to walk to school for the first time!

Fall is quickly approaching and so the mornings are beautiful! It is nice to breathe in fresh air and get a fresh start to the morning.

This is Vinny's place at the table. He gets to sit by some boys so that is fun!

I just love his classroom. It is big and has a lot of neat things. It is an old school but a charming one.

This is the little house area that they can play in. During the open house, I saw a girl cooking and this little boy was banging on stuff trying to "fix" things for her. It was really cute.
They even have a shelf of silly shoes that the kids can play in.

As you can see, there are computers in the classroom.

This is Vincent's teacher Mrs. Ferrin. She seems really nice. I am excited to see what she thinks of Vincent. As a mom, you really worry about your kids and wonder...

Will they be liked? Will they drive teacher crazy? etc.

On Vincent's first day, he got to go to the Library, sing songs, color, and they read a book called "The Kissing Hand." We have actually read it before and he recognized it so that was fun. It is about a little possum who goes to school for the first day and doesn't want to leave his mom. So the mother kisses him on the hand so that she will be with him all day. That is why they made this puppet and when they walked out, she gave them 2 Hershey's kisses. One for them, and one for mom. I had beg for it of course:)

Since his first day, he has had picture day, music, library and P.E. I think that P.E. is his favorite.

We work everyday on his letters and numbers. While he is doing his homework, me and Lily are by his side, at the table on the computer doing Starfall. It is good quality time with the kids. I love it.

Hurray for school!
